Wilkins and Rhone lead CM harriers in West Central Valley – Newton Daily News

REDFIELD — The Colfax-Mingo men’s cross country team took on the No. 1-ranked Class 1A team at the West Central Valley Invitational on Thursday.

The Chargers have been impressive at the top of the standings. There will be no official ranking for the women’s team as the timing company lost power during this race.

The Colfax-Mingo boys were sixth in the seven-team standings with 131 points. Harrison Rhone led the way in 14th with a time of 19 minutes, 2.35 seconds.

Shae Wilkins led the CM girls in 11th with an unofficial time of 22:52. The top 15 in each race won medals. The event took place at West Central Valley Junior High School.

The top-ranked Chargers scored 18 points atop the men’s standings. They finished in 1-2-4-5-6-7-12. Woodward-Granger scored 85 points in second and Ankeny Christian Academy was third with 93.

The rest of the seven-team field included Van Meter (106), Woodward Academy (113), Colfax-Mingo (131) and West Central Valley (189).

Owen Ament finished second for the Tigerhawk boys in 32nd with a time of 21:13.08. Gage Byal finished 36th in 21:32.08 and John McGill (21:43.23) and Mason Edwards (21:48.18) rounded out the runners in 38th and 40th, respectively.

Carter Gibson (22:08.21) and Austin Lane (22:38.54) finished 46th and 52nd respectively as non-scoring runners.

Class 1A No. 14 Justin Reinhart of the ACGC won the boys’ 5k race in 16:54.12. His teammate and 20th in the standings, Andrew Mahaffey, was second in 17:33.42.

The other four runners for the CM girls were McKenna Pleima (26:40) in 42nd, Bianca Lane (27:40) in 44th, Lilyan Hadsall (27:53) in 47th and Mallory Sipma (31:52) in 54th.
