City View won its second straight District 7-3A title on Saturday, beating Holliday, 80-66. The Mustangs (26-4, 9-0) have three games left in their quest for an undefeated run through the district.
Holliday (20-8, 7-3) falls to a tie with Bowie for second in the district. The Eagles and Jackrabbits meet on Friday.
The Eagles gave City View their most competitive game on the district schedule, battling a 29-13 deficit after the first period. The Mustangs’ lead was reduced to 59-53 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jaeden Whitten led the Mustangs with a game-high 23 points, while Chris Whitten and Kendrick Gibson scored 18 apiece.
Holliday had a good night of shooting, making 10 3-pointers, including six by Austin Jones for his team’s 18 points. Nathan Williams made the other four 3s, finishing with 16 points. Hayden Strealy added 14.
ARCHER City 46, SEYMOUR 45
SEYMOUR — Kameron Moss beat the buzzer on Saturday, lifting Archer City to a 46-45 win over District 9-2A rival Seymour. The result draws Archer City (15-11, 5-2) tied with Seymour (22-7, 5-2) for second place in the district. Archer City holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with a sweep of the Panthers.
Petrolia (17-8, 6-1) sits atop the 9-2A standings, fending off Windthorst for a 55-52 win on Saturday. Petrolia swept Archer City, but its only district loss was at Seymour. The Panthers and Pirates meet Friday in Petrolia.
