SALEM – Walter E. Callahan, 80, of Goshen Township, Salem passed away at 2:03 am on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Salem Regional Medical Center.

He was born on May 12, 1941 in Salem. The son of the late George and Sara (Gromley) Callahan.

He was a lifetime resident of the area, attended Salem High School and retired after a long career as a truck driver. There have been a lot of things over the years that he has found to take care of. He had helped his brother-in-law, Ed Geary, when he started the towing business. If a big or small engine needed to be fixed, Walt wasn’t afraid to tackle it.

When the modern age of computers arrived, it helped him fix things. He became a staunch youtuber, it was his help to fix anything. The History Channel was very mainstream, he set up shop to watch stuff about wars and shows about westerns. Walter had also attended Greenford Christian Church.

He is survived by his children: Jeffrey W. Callahan of Salem, Neil T. (Karen) Callahan of Glenn Dale, W.Va., Brian L. Callahan of Salem and Lisa A. (Joseph) Endicott of Salem; siblings: Sally Geary of Salem and Mary (Jim) Blasiman of Salem and William (Norma) Callahan of Columbiana; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Barbara Ann Blasiman, whom he married on June 7, 1963 and died on August 27, 2019, and siblings John Callahan and Judy Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. Reverend Rollie Schwendeman of Marietta will officiate with the interment at Hope Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
