welcome to Voice only, our weekly roundup of awesome a cappella.

This week, I’m focusing on United Voice Worship. Here they sing a mix of a few hymnal classics – “Revive Us Again”, “Just a Little Talk With Jesus” and more – as well as contemporary songs like “Raise a Hallelujah” from Bethel Music.

(I need to know where this was recorded. I mean, look at those benches with “C of C” engraved on the side. Good!)

This diverse group of singers aims to “celebrate differences and inspire intentional conversations through various a cappella worship experiences and resources,” according to their website.

They also represent a variety of congregations. Browsing through their list online, I recognize my compatriot Georgia Bulldog Nic Dunbar, minister of worship at the West Houston Church of Christ, and Zuriel and Ramleez Rubio, whom I met a few years ago at the Bammel Church of Christ ( also in Houston). The Rubios do an incredible job in a cappella worship in Spanish and share an incredible and heartbreaking journey of faith. (Remind me to share this story someday. Seriously, don’t let me forget.)

Another member of the group, Josh Kasinger, is minister of worship and leadership at the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, Ark. I met him a few months ago after preaching for Sandstone Drive Church of Christ on the south side of Little Rock. I passed by Pleasant Valley for lunch with my friend Jonathan Storment, the pastor of Pleasant Valley. We took a trip to see an anti-trafficking ministry in Nepal in 2012. Storment introduced me to Kasinger. (Hey, he has “singer” in his name. I just noticed that.)

Josh told me about the Agape conference that Pleasant Valley is hosting from November 5th to 7th. If you love what you hear from United Voice Worship, you’ll want to be there. Find more information about it here.

Josh gave me a copy of the United Voice Worship Volume 1 album. I post some links to my favorite songs from the album. There is no video, so listen and be edified.

What’s your favorite a cappella song? Send us a video link and a short description of what the song means to you. We may use your selection in a future Voices Only.
