The National Prep Showcase, an annual visit of the country’s top players and prep teams to New Haven, returns after a one-year hiatus.

The event, which was canceled last November due to the pandemic, returns to Albertus Magnus College from November 19-21. And it will present a field as impressive as ever.

UConn fans will be especially interested to see IMG Academy, which has many top 100 rookies including Alex Karaban, forward of the 6-foot-8 class of 2022 who committed to the Huskies last summer.

Karaban, who will sign his national letter of intent to attend UConn on Wednesday, is not the only highly touted player at IMG. His teammates include Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland, a pair of top 100 rookies and entrants from Syracuse, as well as AJ Storr, a entry from St. John’s. IMG plays Northfield Mount Hermon Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and New Hampton School Sunday at 9 a.m.

Several other UConn rookies will be in the house, including Taylor Bowen of Brewster Academy, a 6-8 forward who is ESPN’s No.23 overall prospect for 2023 and is a coveted UConn target, as well as Aaron Clark, a 6-6 wing who is teammate of Bowen Brewster, Jayden Lemond of Blair Academy and Papa Kante of South Kent School.

The event will also be a homecoming for Desmond Claude, the New Haven Class of 2022 leader who plays at Putnam Science Academy. Claude, who had no interest in recruiting UConn, is considered a commit of Xavier in the near future.

Among the top players entered at the event will be Wilbraham & Monson’s Kyle Filipowski, the 10th player in the class of 2022, according to espn.com, who will travel to Duke next year, and Brewster’s Matas Buzelis. Academy, ranked 10th in the 2023 class. Buzelis is recruited by UConn, although it is believed to be more of a state of Florida or a state of Michigan.

The event is expected to proceed as usual with no crowd restrictions, although spectators will likely need to wear a mask.

BIG DAY IN BRISTOL

Karaban will not be UConn’s only pledge to sign its national letter of intent on Wednesday. Donovan Clingan, the 7 footer from Bristol Central, will do so at 3pm in the Bristol Central Auditorium. Karaban and Clingan (ESPN. No. 58) are the only two entries for the 2022 class of Huskies so far, but other niches could open up, depending on whether someone chooses to go pro or transfer, or if RJ Cole (graduate transfer) or Tyrese Martin (senior) choose to use another year of eligibility.
