HOWLAND – A large ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ sign outside Trumbull County Republican Party headquarters, 1195 Niles Cortland Road, has turned some heads due to a hidden meaning behind the phrase.

“Let’s Go Brandon” has been part of a social media storm since an NBC reporter in October interviewed Brandon Brown about winning a major NASCAR race. In the background there were people chanting something the reporter thought was “Let’s Go Brandon,” and the vocals were mentioned in the report.

But on closer listening revealed the song was actually “(expletive) Joe Biden – referring to the President of the United States.”

Since then, many conservative commentators and supporters of former President Donald Trump have taken reporters’ misunderstanding as evidence of the reluctance of the “fake news” media to admit anti-Biden sentiment.

Although the new Trumbull GOP chairman Kenneth Kline has said he did not put the sign in front of the party headquarters, this is a popular sentiment towards the current chairman.

Kline, the pastor of First Christian Church in Newton Falls, said anyone watching the nation’s leadership should be more concerned about what’s going on with gas prices and inflation than this sign.

“Come on, people,” he said.

It didn’t take long after Brandon Brown’s interview for the phrase to become one of the most popular in the right-wing stratosphere.

He’s seen in some circles as a way for those who are deeply opposed to Biden’s presidency to identify others with similar beliefs.

T-shirts, hats and other memorabilia featuring the phrase are on sale. There have been several songs from “Let’s Go Brandon” including recordings by Loza Alexander and another recording of the same name by Bryson Gray.
