Rotarians celebrate club anniversaries

At the beginning of each month, the Rotary Club of Plainview celebrates its monthly birthdays.

Brandon Ahrens, 12; Dr. Jason Geesey, two; Janice Payne, 33; Jason Stehlik, five; and Beverly Wall, 14, for a total of 66 years of service.

Plainview Rotarians held their weekly meeting last Tuesday and recognized Caleb Haines as the Rotarian Student of the Month for September. Caleb is Plainview’s first Student of the Month for the 2022-2023 year. He is a Plainview Christian Academy junior with a 4.0 GPA. In addition to his high GPA, he also competes on the school’s cross-country team and is the PCA’s student council treasurer. There are 20 other students who applied for Student of the Month and we are proud of his service to our club.

This week’s program was presented by Branden Sutterfield, President and Vice President of the Plainview Area United Way Campaign. He enlightened us on Centraide’s contributions. In fact, when you donate to Plainview Area United Way, the organization funds 7 different health and human service agencies in the area. This includes funding from Central Plains Early Childhood Intervention, Crisis Center of the Plains, Plainview Boy Scouts of America – South Plains Council, Plainview Education Partnership, Salvation Army, Wee Care Child Center, and the Plainview YMCA.

Branden also invited Rotarians and other Plainview citizens to the Plainview Area 2022 United Way Campaign Kick-Off Luncheon Sept. 19 at the Wayland Baptist Laney Center beginning at noon. The launch luncheon will feature KCBD Sporting Director Pete Christy. Tickets are $10 and include a fajita lunch from Amigos. Call 806-293-7072 for tickets.

After the meeting, the club dismissed and turned to the community to find ways to show Service Above Self.
