Michigan hiring roundup: a solid week for commits

Fall is in full swing, and that means high school playoff football in many states.

Here are the stats available from Michigan’s football engagements and major goals from the past week as some have started their playoffs.

The Wolverines ‘2022 recruiting class currently ranks 17th nationally and 3rd in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports’ Composite system. The team has 17 commits.

2022 commits

3 stars LB Kevonte Henry, Lawndale (CA) Leuzinger

Henry, who recently received a big audience boost from 247Sports, had a monster performance in a 60-6 win over Hawthorne. He ran four times for 129 yards and a touchdown and also had eight tackles, including four for loss.

4 stars ATH Kody Jones, Germantown (Tenn.)

Jones, who will likely play nickel at Michigan, rushed for two touchdowns in a 59-0 win over Cordova that can be watched here and here. He also made a nice defensive play which can be seen here. Jones is the No. 321 rookie nationally.

3 stars DT Kenneth Grant, Merrillville (Ind.)

Grant helped Merrillville advance through the playoffs and keep his season unbeaten by registering four tackles, including two for loss, forced fumble and pass break in a 30-13 win over Crown Point. The 6-foot-4, 335-pounder is ranked 530th overall.

3 stars RB CJ Stokes, Columbia (SC) Hammond

The nationwide No.712 prospect rushed for two touchdowns in a 33-0 win over Heathwood Hall Episcopal. His touchdowns went for 12 yards (look here) and 6 meters (look here). He also hit the 1,000 rushing yard mark this season – the third straight year he has accomplished that feat.

3 stars S Damani Dent, Jacksonville (Florida) Terry Parker

Michigan’s most recent engagement caught two passes for 60 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown, in a 30-27 loss to ED White. He also had an interception. Dent is ranked n ° 1,418 nationally.

3 stars TE Marlin Klein, Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee

Klein, the No. 526 overall prospect, had two catches for 34 yards and one score in a 58-6 win over High Point Christian Academy.

2022 target

3 stars WR Kaleb Webb, Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern

Webb caught seven passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns in a 46-24 win over Sharpsburg East Coweta. Overall prospect # 663 is an engagement from East Carolina, but Michigan recently offered him and he plans to visit Ann Arbor this season.

2023 target

5 stars WR Jalen Brown, Miami (FL) Gulliver Prep

The No. 24 rookie in the next round caught four passes for 144 yards and a touchdown in a 49-13 victory over Cardinal Newman.

2024 target

QB CJ Carr, saline

Carr completed 15 of 30 passes for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 32-20 loss to Canton in the first round of the playoffs. It was Saline’s only loss this season. Carr is rated as a four star prospect by 247Sports.
