Melvin Lynch, 85, of Portsmouth, transitioned on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Consulate Health Care of Windsor. He was predeceased by his three brothers.

Melvin was born July 15, 1936 in Martin County, North Carolina, to the late George E. Lynch and Annie Everett. During his career, Melvin worked as a forklift driver at Naval Base Norfolk and finally a bus driver for the city of Suffolk. He was also a strong believer in the Christian faith, having been a devoted and faithful member of Tabernacle Christian Church under the leadership of Bishop Carlton Upton. Melvin enjoyed attending the service and was active in the men’s community and the board of ushers of the church.

Left to cherish her precious memories are two girls; Phyllis Parker from Portsmouth and Brenda Clemons from Suffolk; two sons, Brian Hill (Shelia) of Suffolk and Cory Hill of Orlando, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Lock Parker, Montrell Parker, Niketa Hilliard (Linwood), Reshon Wilburn, Brian Boone, Cordney Hill, Temple Hill, Faith Hill, Cameron Shaw, Hope Hill and Grace Hill; seven great-grandchildren; several cousins, Sarah Spruill-Sweat of Norfolk, Shirley Spruill, Michael Spruill, Joseph Smith all of Suffolk, Warius Smith of Raleigh, NC, Ben Jones of Everett, NC, Inell Doggett of Robertsonville, NC, and the Reverend Dr Lorenzo Lynch Sr. of Durham, North Carolina

A funeral service was held Thursday, September 16 at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Bishop Carlton Upton Sr. will deliver the message of comfort.
