Marianne Garrett – Daily Diary

FRANKLIN

Marianne Garrett, 95, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at her residence on October 1, 2022.

She was born on November 2, 1926 in Franklin, Indiana to Ralph and Hattie (Richardson) Duckworth. She married Joseph Henry Garrett on July 7, 1946. They were married for seventy years. He predeceased her on November 16, 2016. Marianne is survived by children, Joey Garrett (Patsy); Joyce Ellen Garrett; Joanne Spencer (Mark) and John Mark Garrett (Cindy); grandchildren, Joey Miller (Carrie), Patricia Lucas (Andy), Patsy Jo Koepke (Steven), Adam Garrett (Betty), Aaron Garrett (Kathy), Grace Scott (Wes), Caleb Spencer and Justin Garrett (Heather); great-grandchildren, Kasey, Kaitlyn, Noah, Lyla, Eric, Johnathan, Mary, Christian, Keaton, Quinn, Ivan, Heidi, Streichtyr, Hattie and Ira and great-great-grandchildren, Karson, Kameron, Kaleesa, Kaiden and Kensley and brother, Ralph Duckworth, Jr. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Joe; and his brothers, David Richardson, John Duckworth and Arthur Duckworth.

She was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School and attended Franklin College.

Marianne worked at the Vandiver grocery store and later worked for the Fertig dairy. She also worked at Hopewell School in the kitchen where she was known for her homemade yeast buns. She drove a school bus for Franklin Schools for forty-six years. Marianne has worked side by side on the family farm all her life. She milked cows and raised replacement dairy heifers for twenty years. She cooked and fed all the hired help, friends, family and neighbors. It was never hard to get farm labor if they had tasted Marianne’s cooking.

Marianne’s purpose in life was faith, family, and the farm. She played the piano in church for seventy years and later learned to play the organ.

She was an active member of the Fair Haven Christian Church, involved in music, choir and Sunday school.

Reverend Brian Clark will lead a celebration of Marianne’s life Thursday, October 6, 2002 at 12:00 p.m. at Fair Haven Christian Church, 1476 West 300 South in Franklin with visitations Thursday, October 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. The Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is helping the family make arrangements.
