Mandeville beats Salmen with solid second half – Crescent City Sports


Zone Prep Basketball Report for Saturday December 18

Friday night on the floor, Mandeville won at home 72-63 against Salmen.

In a hotly contested first half, there were six ties. The teams were tied 14-14 after a quarter before Salmen took a 36-29 lead at halftime.

The second half belonged to Mandeville.

The Skippers opened the third quarter in a 12-0 run to take a 41-36 lead and never dragged the rest of the way.

The Skippers passed the Spartans 22-11 in the third quarter to take a 51-37 lead going into the final quarter. Salmen came close to two points twice in the third quarter and came close to 58-56 early in the fourth, but it was an end like the Spartans would.

Bryce Weinmunson, who pledged to play for Clayton State, had 28 points while Jaylen Pazon added 17 points for the Skippers.

Jayshawn Williams led Salmen with 25 points while Rob Johns finished with 16 points.

Mandeville (10-4) has won three straight games. The Skippers will open the District 6-5A game on January 4 at Northshore. The Spartans (6-7) return to action this afternoon in St. Paul’s at 2:15 p.m.
