For over 160 years, YMCAs across the United States have fulfilled their mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that strengthen the healthy mind, mind, and body by drawing on inspiration and the talents of local volunteers.

Champaign Family YMCA board member Pat Bass saw his idea come true when the “Outdoor Summer Praise Singalong” series began on Saturday June 5th. The series takes place at Melvin Miller Park from Saturday to August 28 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in a performance hall by the pond.

“The Summer Praise Singalong series is open to everyone and we are delighted to see the local religious community come together on Saturday nights for 10 weeks this summer for an hour of fellowship as we sing and perform songs of praise and worship.” , said Bass. “I sing with the praise and worship team at my church, and I love spreading God’s message of love through songs that I have sung all my life.”

The group also invites singers, musicians, audio / sound people and assistants to come and participate.

The Summer Praise Singalong is an interfaith effort led by what Champaign Family Y CEO Paul Waldsmith calls a “relentlessly positive, enthusiastic and supportive” personality of Bass.

“For the past two years, Pat has hosted our YMCA’s Easter Virtual Prayer Service on Maundy Thursday,” said Waldsmith. “She’s a really nice person who ‘walks the walk.’ Pat is actively involved in the community here in Urbana and with the churches in Champaign County, and we look forward to bringing people together for a relaxing evening of song and song. prayers.

Participants are encouraged to bring garden chairs.
