Foxcroft’s Jarrett finishes 12th in PVC Championship


CARIBOU — Sophomore Foxcroft Academy runner Jarrett finished 12th among Class B runners in the 2022 Penobscot Valley Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Caribou High School.

Jarrett completed the 5km course in a time of 19 minutes, 1.13 seconds to finish 12th among 47 Class B runners.

Pony junior Zachary Peirce placed 36th with his time of 21:49.24. Classmate Jorgen Halvorsen finished 38th in 22:23.44.

Mount Desert Island High School senior Sam York won the Class B competition by about 11 seconds in 16:47.08.

John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor won the team title with a score of 35 points, the best among six full teams. MDI was second with 37 points and Ellsworth High School third with 94 points.

In the Class B girls’ race, Foxcroft Academy senior Anna Raynes ran a time of 25:28.22 to place 21st among a field of 42 runners.

MDI sophomore Amelia Vandongen was the first to cross the finish line in 19:06.24, edging the runner-up by about 1:20.

Vandongen helped MDI claim the girls’ crown with 27 points, followed by 77 for Caribou and 86 for Hermon High School’s third-place finish among a half-dozen full teams.

Three boys from Dexter Regional High School competed in the Class C PVC Championship.

Senior Trevor Speed ​​finished 33rd among a field of 60 riders with his time of 21:51.42.

Senior Tiger David Race was 48th at 24:27.28, and senior Allen Gatchell was 59th at 31:44.23.

Kaleb Colson, a junior from Sumner Memorial High School of East Sullivan, posted the best Class C time of the day and best overall performance in 16:27.56 – beating second place by around 14.5 seconds.

Blue Hill’s George Stevens Academy won the Class C championship with 41 points, the best among eight teams. Sumner came in second with 71 points and Orono High School third with 93 points.

Dexter senior Emma Alexander came 29th out of 41 class C girls with her time of 27:23.27.

Orono junior Ruth White finished in first place with her time of 17:54.76, the best Class C time of around 1:20.

White helped Orono win the Tag Team Championship with 27 points. The Houlton High School/Greater Houlton Christian Academy cooperative team finished second with 42 points, followed by George Stevens Academy in third among four schools with 72 points.
