Few thunderstorms possible this evening, becoming drier on Sunday

We have a hot and sweltering evening, but staying dry for Relay For Life(KPLC)

Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – Our week was filled with sunshine and warm afternoons as most of us hit the lower 90s during the day before slowly cooling down overnight. As we approach the weekend there are slight changes to the forecast as the chance of isolated storms returns to the forecast, but the silver lining is that the models have tended to be slightly drier over the past 24 hours. The weekend promises to be rather dry, but it will be hot because the temperatures sometimes seem more summery.

Coming out this morning our temperatures are slightly warmer than the past few days as we still have some lower 70s in the mix this morning with some upper 60s as well. Luckily it’s a quiet start to the day as we’re tracking no fog at the moment and no showers or thunderstorms, although that may change in the evening as a few isolated thunderstorms try to work their way through the region. Starting on our Friday, however, we can expect plenty of sunshine and that will help propel our temperatures higher once again as the head returns to the 90s this afternoon. Most of the day will remain dry though, as our storms appear to be building eastward and slowly heading south and west over time. We have Relay For Life and downtown at sunset tonight and these events seem to be going well, if we see a downpour or a stray storm it won’t last long and it would help keep us cool all evening . Things don’t change much for Saturday morning as we start warm and muggy with some patches of fog.

Looking at the weekend as a whole, it really won’t be that bad as we see plenty of sunshine and a few mixed clouds from time to time. A disturbance will creep in from the north and west on Saturday evening and that looks to bring another chance for isolated showers and storms, and looks to be our best chance for rain over the next 10 days. The best chance of showers and thunderstorms seem to be in the evening and quickly fade once we lose the heat during the day. Highs will be warmer with upper 80s near 90s for Saturday afternoon with highs returning once again to lower 90s for Sunday. I hope you can spend the weekend outside and by the pool or the lake because it will be very hot. Remember to keep an eye on the skies as we head into the afternoon and evening with the possibility of a few storms in the mix. From now on, it won’t be a washout and you’ll just want to find a way to stay cool with the warmer temperatures.

A quick check of the second half of the ten-day forecast will feature much of what we saw last week, namely summer temperatures with a slight chance of rain. In fact, the sun is going to be abundant over the next 5-10 days with highs rising into the lower 90s for the afternoon and it will be even hotter at times. Just keep an eye on the skies over the next two days, especially if you’re heading to one of this weekend’s events.
