Danish trio Efterklang are releasing a new album, Wind flowers, October 8 via City Slang. Now, they’ve shared their third single, “Hold Me Close When You Can,” via a video featuring footage submitted by their fans. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming U.S. tour dates.

Efterklang is composed of Casper Clausen (vocals), Mads Brauer (synths, electronics) and Rasmus Stolberg (bass).

A press release describes the song’s creation in more detail: “Singer Casper Clausen crafted the chords and melody during a radio soundcheck in Brussels in January 2020, where his teammate Rasmus Stolberg immediately heard his potential. The snippet was recorded as a vocal note, and the band struggled with structure and instrumentation in the studio, working with live band member Christian Balvig on the string arrangements, until that everything unfolds in front of them.

“It’s a very moving song and it always touches me,” Brauer simply adds in a press release.

The videos were created through Efterklang Developed, an app “the group is building with London-based creative agency MARRIAGE, with the aim of bringing listeners closer together.” Fans got a preview of the song and more than 800 people from 49 different countries submitted photos to use in the video.

“The video is not about presenting our music in the most impressive and flashiest way, but about collaboration,” Efterklang said in a press release. “It’s something that we realize has become a center of how we operate as a group. We want to create with listeners and concert attendees, and we keep looking for new ways to do it…. We loved its simplicity and symmetry, and were excited to see how people interpret music through their own reality. It was amazing to see what everyone gave for themselves.

Efterklang does it again, with fans then signing up to hear the new one. Wind flowers song “Alien Arms” and be able to submit photos for this video from September 22 to 29.

Previously, Efterklang shared the album’s first single, “Living Other Lives”, via a video. “Living Other Lives” was one of our songs for the week. Then they shared her second single, “Dragonfly,” via a video for the song.

Wind flowers is the sequel to 2019 Altid sammen, which was their first album in seven years and released via 4AD.
