The week The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s football 10 is officially over, marking the start of the playoffs and the hunt for state championship titles.

The Catholic High School Bears of Baton Rouge are the highest ranked team in the First division support. The Bears are 9-1 this season, and, in addition to being bowled over by Woodlawn High School in Week 9, Catholic topped a schedule of talented opponents including Lafayette Christian Academy, Warren Easton Charter High School and Acadiana High School.

If the Jays make it past the quarter-finals, they will certainly face a challenge against third-seeded CE Byrd High School, sixth-seeded Archbishop Rummel High School, or 11th-seeded Brother Martin High School. seeded in the semi-finals.

Despite a 3-5 record on paper and receiving the 11th seed, the Brother Martin Crusaders certainly have a chance to win the state. ED White Catholic High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana is the highest ranked team in Section II, ending with a perfect 8-0 record. However, University laboratory school Baton Rouge are arguably the best team in the division, finishing 10-0 and showcasing a talent-laden roster.

The University Lab Cubs are led by a four-star prospect and class 2022 defensive back Austin Ausberry, who was recently invited to star in the Under Armor All-America game. Ausberry’s brother, Jaiden, is a five-star linebacker prospect for the Cubs in the class of 2023. The Cubs will welcome either Teurlings Catholic High School or De La Salle High School in the quarterfinals, while ED White will face either St. Michael the Archangel High School or the Parkview Baptist Eagles.

The Division III support is hotly contested, with five talented teams already advancing to the quarter-finals. The first seed is defending champions Lafayette Christian, who enters with a 8-1 record with their only loss to come Catholic high school. Crowley’s Notre-Dame High School is the second seed after finishing his regular season 8-2. Saint-Charles Catholic High School, which defeated Notre-Dame to reach the state last season is the third seeded in Division III with a 8-0 record. Episcopal School of Baton Rouge is the fourth seed, holding an unbeaten 9-0 record.

Ultimately, Isidore Newman School is the fifth seed and top school in Division III in New Orleans after finishing 6-2. The Greenies are led by the nation’s number one player for the Class of 2023, the quarterback Manning Arch, and will face Episcopal in the quarterfinals.

Zachary High School is the best team in class 5A For the very first time. The Broncos are 10-0 and are chasing their fourth state title since 2015. Zachary will face Slidell in the first round this week.

Ponchatoula high school is this year’s surprise team in 5A, finishing 8-0 and winning the third seed in the playoffs. Ponchatoula will face Lycée Lafayette in the first round.

Destrehan High School looking to make another run for the 5A State title after finishing 6-0 in a season of only inter-district games. Destrehan will start their playoffs against West Jefferson High School.

Reigning 5A Champion Acadian is set to kick off the playoffs against Dutchtown Friday. Seventh-seeded Wreckin ‘Rams are 8-2 this season, falling to the seeds Catholic High and Lafayette Christian.

The Class 4A bracket presents the possibility of a state championship game between New Orleans Powers Edna Karr High School and Warren Easton. The Karr Cougars are in their final campaign in 4A, as many expect them to be placed in the Catholic 5A League once the next round of LHSAA classification is over.

Top-ranked Cougars are 8-0, with their only close game against Warren Easton in an Oct. 20-18 win. Karr is about to meet Breaux Bridge High school on November 12 at Behrman Stadium in the first round.

Warren Easton enters the 4A playoffs with a 5-2 record. Their only losses this season have been seeded Catholic High and Edna Karr. However, the Eagles have dominated the rest of their schedule and are certainly one of the top contenders in their class. Easton will face off against AJ Ellender High School on November 12 at the Pan American Stadium in the first round.

The LHSAA playoffs will take place over the next few weeks, culminating in state championships. The Divisions I and III championship games will be held at Yulman Stadium on December 4, while the Division II and IV games will be held at Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana on December 11. All unselected State Championships will take place. at the Caesars Superdome from December 11-12.
